Bike window shopping
From tomorrow until a week after Ramadhan(end of September,2009),I will stop cycling for about 40 days due to the fasting month of Ramadhan and the Eidul Fitri celebration thereafter.By tomorrow,I hope to clock in 100km for this month.Hopefully,when my income improves in October,2009,I will be riding a new bike;-)
The question still unanswered until today is what bike.During the last one month,I have been window shopping.The ones that caught my eyes are Trek,Giant and Merida in that order.Price wise also follows that descending order.At first,I really wanted full suspension bike and this class of bike costs nothing less than RM8k.After discussing with my peers and riding buddies,they advised me to get only good hardtail bike,costing around RM3k to RM4k.Looking back at my limited cycling skills and endurance and the usual trails I ride, I think my friends gave me a good advice.
Until today,I have not decided which bike...Actually I am waiting for new models from Giant coming this October before I decide one one to buy.To my friends,which you prefer-Trek or Giant?

Pre Ramadhan Ride
When I arrived at the car park in front of SK Kepong at 7:50am this morning,I saw four cars.By the time we were about to cycle,the car park was full of cars and people.It appeared that most people came today so that they could have their last MTB at FRIM before the coming Ramadhan in a week's time.So I was not alone.
On the way,I was thinking who am going to ride with because most of my PER kaki could not come.By the time we started cycling I have more than enough friends to cycle with.I met Pak Mad,Aru,Pak Kamal,Fadlil and Ishar with his Land Rover friends.
While going downhill after the Steroid Hill RV ,we met Mr Choo and Mr Chee who had to stop because Choo's rear derailers got twisted.We stopped to help.He was asking me if I have some tools to fix his bike.Luckily,I have my Leatherman pliers.if not,he had to push his bike at least 5km to FRIM.
Before going home,we had nasi lemak for brunch.Distance covered 16.9km in 1hr 40 minutes.

First visit to Rodalink
I visited this bikeshop looking water bag because I want to cycle at FRIM tomorrow.Sadly ,there were no stock for men.Since I was there I took time to look at Giant bikes.The one shown in the photo cost about RM2700 but the full specs one costs about RM4200.Giant design include some carbon fibre components and it appears to be lighter than the Trek equivalent.I want told to buy the 2010 models-will be coming soon in two months time.
By the way,I am in no hurry to get a new bike.In one week time,I will hang my MTB bike due to Ramadhan.InsyaAllah,I will get my new bike in October,2009.I still like Trek, but Giant is no pushover.

Shoes for MTB Riders
At the moment I am quite happy with my Timberland shoes to ride my MTB.However they get wet inside out when I have to cross a stream or flooded/mudded trails.To get them dry,it will take at least 2 days.I check out for water proof shoes but they are way too expensive and not that comfortable to wear.May I have you comments on this matter.
The photo on the right is a nice Camel Active walking shoes.I tried and I felt very comfortable to walk but I am not sure whether these shoes are good for MTB riders like you and me.I plan to get one soon as my casual shoes.

August,2009 MTB Ride
With the coming of Ramadhan,I have planned only 7 rides for this month.Five will be around my neighbourhood and and two will be at FRIM on Saturdays-8th and 15th.I hope to achieve only 100km.To my riding buddies,please let me know if you wish to join me at FRIM on the dates mentioned.
Yesterday, I bought Mountain Biking UK magazine, Aug,2009 edition.The cover story was entitled The Taste of England.It tells the ride of MTB celebrity Brian Lopes and MBUK team went for a ride in Bath.With the magazine,came a CD that show a video of MTB rides.I also can read reviews of the new bikes coming to the market.
I anticipate September will be a quiet month for our MTB riding activities due to Ramadhan fasting month and later followed by the Eidul Fitri celebration and holidays.By October,2009 I hope to have enough money to buy a new bike and go to UK to meet my friend who promised me to take me riding around London.

Parking your bicycle
If you ride to work,this is one way you can secure your bike from being stolen at Pandan Jaya where my office is located.Most people in my town never ride to work.I only see a handful still using bicycle.Most are using cars,motorcycles and buses when they go to work.
In Putrajaya,I saw a lot of parking bays for bicycles and they remain empty most of the time,even during weekends.
