The built-in camera in the mobile and smart phones really clicked with me-the pun is intended. It began with a Nokia 6600 in 2005and later Nokia 71 followed by Nokia 08 and Blackberry 9900.These mobile gadgets really kept me shooting from my hips most of the time.Somehow,I seldom carry my DSLR or even lighter compact camera.I really owed to built-in camera in the mobile phone that keep me taking photos and along the way I learnt a few things.Similarly with blogging-I would not be writing as much without it.
How did I get back to my real camera for taking photos? It was due to my cycling in Putrajaya beginning in August,2008 when I started to see so many nice places. When we cycled we also stopped and took photos. My Lumix TZ2 came in handy.Later,I upgraded to Lumix LX5 for better night shots. My cycling buddies are avid photographers and they shoot like professionals.I learnt a lot along the cycling tracks ,so to speak.
The photo above is one of my favourite mobile shots using Nokia 08.In fact,I regreted selling it in order to buy Blackberry Bold 9900.From my experience,it gave me the best photos from all of my mobile phones.
Over the years,I learnt how to take better mobile phones photos with all its limitations. When my friends asked me how did I get good shots,I told them he following tips:
1.Shoot something beautiful.(Choose your subject)
2.Get enough light.(Good weather)
3.Hold your camera a few seconds after your click.
4.Good luck
All the above are basic and no brainer but when everyone is taking photos nowadays, the above list is not that common amomg common folks.
To maintain my healthy lifestyle,I cycle once a week and walk twice a week.During my walks in the gardens,I began to see more beautiful flowers and plants. As from 2011,I ditched away my built-in camera phones and started using more of iPad and Lumix LX5.Only on certain occassions,I will bring my DSLR Canon 400D.As I used more real camera,I started to learn more about photography from my actual shootings and from friends who are more knowledgable and experienced than I do.To add some fun to my learning,I organised a few photowalks in KL and Putrajaya and I also joined photowalks organised by my Flickr friends and Cycling friends. Two days ago I joined the KL tribe for Scott Kelby Worldwide Photowalk.
About two years ago,I bought my iPad2.Nowadays,I snap photos on the go with my iPad via Instagram. On some ocassion when I don't want to share family photos with others I use camera+,a better apps that provided by iPad,to capture family photos. It costs me USD 0.99.To date, the developer of the apps has sold more than 5 millions copies!By the way ,I read that Instagram was sold for more than USD 1billion!From the news ,if you wish to make real money, don't sell photos online. There may be millions out there in cycberspace. It is better to do something different but photo related.
A few of my friends bought nice cameras but a fter once or twice using them, the camera got stuck some where in the closet. To stay active and motivated ,I joined a group of people who love photography. In one way, photography is similar to cycling. We need nice, friendly and helpful friends to keep us on the saddles and keep pedalling.
Some facebook friends asked me whether I am a professional photographer.I told them I am a full pledged project management consultant and trainer and has yet to arrive at pro status. However,I do sell my photos when the clients request to buy the photos they like from my flickr/500x accounts.
By the way, anyone can still remember textamerica.com way back in 2004?
