I am only a traveller who rests under the shade of a tree and leaves and departs...As I walk, I read and I write whenever I can.And lately I also take photos.
This morning I received a lovely suprise in my email inbox telling me that I have won a competition in writing a catch phrase for moleskine notebook. This coincides well with Eidul Fitri tomorrow.InsyaAllah,I will celebrate the win tomorrow.May I thank Allah swt,the Owner of All The Praises:
Below is a copy of the email:
You've been sent a Flickr Mail from Juan Kerr:

And the winner is ...
Adibi with this:
I love the Moleskine because it makes me write and keeps me writing.
If you could let me have your full postal address by return, I'll get them posted off ASAP.
Thank you Juan Kerr for selecting me to receive the honour:-) By the way, you can have a look at a few snapshots of my moleskine here.
I know that nowadays, not many people are using fountain pens. Ball pens are more convenient. I agree, but personally I prefer fountain pens despite some gel ball pens are almost equally good.My choice of ballpen is Uniball Signo model 207,size 0.7mm.It cost me RM5.80
Currently, I have two fountain pens-one Parker and one Lamy Safari. actually one is enough but I happen to like both of them. Each cost me less than RM80. This is small amount to pay if I compared to my previous Mont Blanc that I used to have when I was younger. I love it very much but it bleeds all the time. However, it had served me for more than five years..
If you wish to know more on how to choose a fountain pen, please click on the link below the photo on the right.
Beginning early this year,I started writing my personal journal on daily basis. For now,it is mainly for me to pour out my thoughts and feelings on certain matters that are important for my life. The act of writing is quite therapeutic. A friend wrote that by writing his journal it keeps his blood pressure low.May be it is a form of stress management tool.
Once a week, I read what I have written. It is one way of personal review that would guide me on what I should be doing next week.Another reason is a record of what I went through for my children to read when I leave this world.
Here's a thought from Harold Thompson:
"One day while thinking about all this pen and ink stuff in the midst of the digital age and interesting thought crept into the picture. Simply it was this; when we pass on it is likely that those we leave behind will pore over our notebooks more intently than our hard drives with all those obscure file names...
PS: I recommend good quality notebooks like moleskine or paperblanks. There are made of acid free papers and last longer.I use both types and from experience it cost less than RM 15 a month. For the pen,I use Uniball 207 and pencil I use Pilot mechanical( 0.7 mm).
The photo below showed me reading the poem Semalam,Hari Ini dan Esok.(refer to yesterday posting) at a meeting of Klickrs.I did not know what got into me,somehow I was in a mood to read the poem I just copied into my notebook.
By the way,I am neither a writer nor a poet, but in a few situations,I just got a pen and write my feeings.Sounds familiar to you? All of us have feelings and a few of us need to put them down on paper. It can be just a short note or a few lines of 'sajak'(poetry). Below is an example of I wrote when my teacher(also my wife's uncle) passed away.He was the Editor of Dian Digest(Majalah Dian) and the translator to Bahasa the tafsir of Syed Qutb-Fizzalil Qu'ran):-
Azan subuh dipagi raya mengejutkan aku dari tidur.Semalaman sudah berkekang
mata di surau bertasbeh disamping berjumpa sahabat lama dan sanak saudara.Semasa
mengambil wuduk, talifon berdering memecah suasana sepi pagi.Aku bergegas
menjawapnya."Ayah sudah meninggal sekejap tadi",beritahu Nublan anak bongsu
guru agamaku-Ustaz Dato' Yusuf Zaki Yaakob..
Selepas solat subuh, aku bergegas memecut kereta kerumah beliau bersama
isteriku.Aku kehilangan guru terhurmat dan isteriku kehilangan bapa saudara
tersayang.Didalam perjalanan,kedengaran esak tangis dari isteriku.Setelah
Wajahnya tenang
dan tersenyum ...
Buat sekitika aku teringat saat-saat bersama-samanya.Banyak topik telah
kami sama bicara........
Akan aku simpan dalam memori kenangan pribadiku.
Disudut hatiku terlihat sebatang Dian Perkasa padam buat selama-lamanya
sesudah empat puluh tahun membakar diri menabur jasa untuk muslimin dan
muslimat di Nusantara..
Below is the exchange of 'luahan rasa' between Irfan and me:

Mohd Adib Noh's reply:
Jangan berduka wahai adiknda,
ayahnda kembali kepada Khaliqnya,
pesan Ayahnda jangan dialpa,
teruskan perjuangan sekadar kita.
Padamlah sebatang dian perkasa, membakar diri menabur jasa,
kepada keluarga,bangsa dan agama,
untuk dinikmati ummah di nusantara.
Hati menangisi pemergian guru dan bapa,
masih teringat kata-nasihat dan gurau senda,
kenangan manis buat sekita,
airmata mengalir tidak terasa.
Hati bertekad mencontuhi Ayahnda,
hidup berilmu hidup beragama,
singgah sebentar dimayapada,
dalam perjalanan menuju yang Esa.
This poem was written by my uncle many, many years ago as a reminder to himself and fellow readers when he was a director of JAKIM.I love it and always keep it safe in my website. Today,I decided to write it down in my plain moleskine notebook and I asked a friend Liyin to sketch my aging face next to it...
Now, I can take with me all the time and read it whenever I want it.
By the end of the year,I hope to write my own poem and make sketches of my own.
If you can't read the poem in the photo, here is the full text:
Semalam, Hari ini Dan Esok.
Semalam,
Wajah ini tampan bergaya,
Hari ini,
Sudah kendur pudar tiada bermaya.
Semalam,
Mata ini cantik bercahaya,
Hari ini,
Sudah layu,kabur dan gelap gelita.
Semalam,
Badan ini tegap dan sasa,
Hari ini,
Lemah,lusuh tidak berdaya.
Semalam,
Akal ini pintar bijaksana,
Hari ini,
Bingun,nyanyuk hilang geliganya.
Semalam,
Masa berada di puja dihormati,
Hari ini,
Bila semua hilang tiada siapa peduli.
Hari ini,
Hidup bernafas laju,
Esok,
Mati lesu dan kaku.
Oleh itu,
Berbaktilah sesama insani,
Bertaqwalah kepada Ilahi,
Biar bahagia di dunia ini,
Biar sejahtera di akhirat nanti.
Do you keep a journal? More than ten years ago,I bought a few nice notebooks, but managed to write a few entries and then I stopped. May be I was too busy or there was no push or pull factors to motivate me to write. Those were the years before the word blogging was invented. Now, I write almost daily in my blog on what I wanted to share with others.
However, there are some thoughts, feelings and views that I wish to keep them private.Where do I write and keep them? At the beginning of this year, I was introduced to moleskine notebook which has become a cult to a group of people. I am not sure whether I would like it,so I bought a cheaper version called cahier.A bundle of three booklets cost me RM27.I kept one for me and gave two to others. Now, I have 12 entires since 15th January,2006.You can see a few snap shots of my new notebooks here.
Here is a link to top ten reasons on writing a Journal.
The online community of moleskine owners/writers are very active and very creative. Personally,I am not an artistic person but I do enjoy creativity in writing, art and photography.
Pen is mightier than the sword? Well, nowadays it has been taken over by a video clip;-)
Talking about using pen to write,I personally prefer pen to a ball point pen. However, most of the time I used a cheaper ball liner when I kept losing my pen and the hassle of refilling the ink. IMHO, many people use ball pen for convenience. How about penmanship? I think it is a dying art as more people use ball pens and computers.A friend, in his 40's confided in me that he had a lot of problem writing answers to his PTK exams because his lack of exercises in writing.May be all he knows now is only to sign letters drafted and typed by his officers. How about the younger generations? Many of them can use the keyboards very well to write essays or proposals and may be faster still in using the keypads of their mobile phones.Someone told me that he could not write on papers anymore. His mind only works when he sits in front of the computer and then only his fingers start to type.
Talking about pens,my first was a Pilot when I was a student. When I graduated and started earning money on my own,I upgraded to a Watermen and when I joined the corporate world,I joined the crowd to own a Mont Blanc;-) I really like my Mont Blanc pen but after a few years, it started to leak.I tried to repair but it keeps on leaking,so I decided not to buy a new one.Honestly,I felt guilty to pay a few hundreds ringgits for a new Mont Blanc.
Lately,I bought a Parker Frontier pen and a Rotring ball point pen with stylus-total cost less than 20% of a normal Mont Blanc pen.
Below is a photo of Mont Blanc kiosk I took using my Treo mobile phone from a distance.I dare not go near the shop.....honestly,I like Mont Blanc design.
Yesterday I have discussion with Kimster and Torque about story writing using blog.I fully support their idea to start with Real Love stories even though I have not much to tell when it comes to love stories...Everyone of us has a story;the question is whether we want to tell someone or write about it.
I have written about the power of the story some time back. Now, story telling has entered the world of business-not just in our folklore. You can read the cover story of the Business Week May 2nd,2005 edition.
Personally, I tried to do the same thing more than five years ago using my homepage at geocities, but it failed to take off. May be I did not do the right thing or the time was not right. In December last year, I started a sister blog to The Reader, but I have yet to write a few stories there.InsyaAllah I will update it as soon as I can recall and sit down to tell my story....
When it comes to writing short notes like in my blog, I prefer to write in English. Some of my friends prefer to write in Bahasa Melayu( Malay). I guess it is a personal choice.
Sometimes, I find difficult to express my thoughts and feelings in English. Most likely, it is due to my limited vocabulary and/or my capability to articulate the issue. In a few cases,no equivalent English words can translate the meaning properly.
A few days ago, a friend asked to write articles of my interest for his new monthly magazine in Bahasa Melayu. I told him I am not qualified but he insisted. So,I sarted a blog entitled Kira-Bicara to practise writing in Malay language.
Kira Bicara is derived from Kelantanese dialect "kigho caro".I think it means to take note and do something about it.May be my fellow readers can explain better.
Some four years ago(before the word blog came into existence, I wrote a few short notes in my old homepage that may shed some light of what I mean by Kira Bicara(or Cara Bicara).
Note : Kira Bicara is not a daily journal like The Reader. It may be updated 1 to 4 times in a month.Everyone will be informed if there is any update via this blog.
