Going back to moleskine notebook

Beginning April,2011 I started using QuaVadis notebook for my personal journal.It is a very good quality notebook and now I have a few pages left.Today,I decided to revert to my moleskine notebook just for one reason-the size fits my pocket.So this afternoon I went to Kinokuniya Bookstore to buy a black pocket side.Here is a link if you wish to see what I have done with my moleskine notebook since 2006.

Helvetica moleskine

I could not remember when I bought it but it was a special edition to celebrate this typeface from Switzerland.It was designed by Eduard Hoffman and Max Miedinger was back in 1957 when I was five years old.According to the record, it was a designated typeface for the first time at the Tokyo Olympic Games in 1964!

Anyway,I am not here to have a discourse on typeface but just to record that I will be starting to use it as I just used up my old moleskine notebook.To my pleasant suprise I am using five types of moleskine notebook-the large plain note book[business notes],the ruled pocket notebook[personal notes],the sketch notebook[itchy hand],the cahier[quicknote on the go] and the diary!And all of them are black in colour.

The photo shown above is how I kept the two of them in a portable case that was designed for a video game machine;-)

Writing and cycling..

Today,I discovered a nice analogy between writing in a notebook and cycling.The first one is good exercise for the mind and the other is for the legs.You can read more here. By the way I am not promoting Kikkerland products or any other brands but I am writing to promote the culture of writing in notebooks.

From my short experience of regular writing in my little notebooks(I am using a few-monologue,QuoVadis,Moleskine),writing in a notebook made me think  and keep my ageing  mind more alert and at the same time it is a good personal daily journal for me.On cycling,it has done wonders to my legs/fitness and maintaining my weight despite my bad habit of eating too much at times.

First visit to Cziplee Plus

Yesterday was my first visit to the special stationery shop located at No 10 ,Jalan Telawi 4,Bangsar,KL where I can buy almost anything related to moleskine.My only limit is my cash in my wallet.Congratulations to Cziplee and I must say I was greatly impressed with the collections.Now,I would not have problems like before(some two years ago) where I had to look around for moleskine notebooks at a  few shopping complexes.Sometimes,I had to get my friends who went to US or Singapore to buy a few for me.To see what they have got,just click on the link above.

Another lovely suprise for me was the BIG moleskine notebook as shown above.

Some two years ago,I tried to start an online community for moleskine users in Kuala Lumpur, but sadly we lack active members.I hope the owner of this shop will initiate a monthly meet-up for moleskine users to get members to share their knowledge and experience in using moleskine products.By the way,I have the privilege to see the catalog for new products coming next year.Some are really great!

Yesterday,I close one eye and shut the other when it comes to purchase these nice looking notebooks.The helvetica (RM93 but I paid only RM83) is a special addition  edition and I bought for my personal collection.It comes in two colours-red and black.Mine is black as usual.By the way I use the ordinary classic moleskine which costs about half of helvetica for my daily use.

Do you carry a notebook in your pocket most of the time?I do and it helps me a lot in my personal and business life.If possible, try also inculcate this culture of writing notes to our children,relatives and friends. Here is the link to benefits of keeping a journal.

Stamps in my moleskine notebook

One good habit..

I have quite a number of bad habits, but one of the few good habits of mine that I wish to share with you is about writing everyday.I can confirm that it keeps my blood pressure around 120/80 most of the time(among other benefits).Here is the link that detailed the 10 reasons why you should inculcate this good habit.I picked this habit about a decade ago when I started blogging on geocities websites,later on blogger.com and now on typepad.com/vox.com. Those very personal matters ,I write them in my notebooks.Two years ago,I began using moleskine notebooks,a bit expensive but it makes me write and it keeps me writing..

It is a very cheap and benefitial hobby-all one needs are a pen,a notebook and the time to write.Using a similar motto of Airasia-Everyone can write.The photo on the top shows me writing my notes while I was on the plane and and on the right showing my 73-year old mother on the left showing her notebook to my wife.She does not write journal but she records her Qur'an reading and hafalan records.

Plaid Journal

While browsing at MPH book sales at GE Mall yesterday afternoon,my friend Nazley and me went around looking for something interesting.Then we came to the section on notebooks.Nazley saw the notebook as shown the right first. When he showed me,I immediately fell in love with the design and the quality of papers inside.It is slightly bigger than moleskine notebook but costs on RM 14(about 25% of moleskine price).

There were only six sets on the shelf,so both of us bought three pieces each.By the way,Nazley blogged about it here.
