During my recent 'balik kampung',my mother showed me this 'kelewan'.The handle is made of copper and I told my mother I like it .She said it is mine. What a lovely suprise!!!
According to my mother,it was given as a gift from a friend of my late father as a form of his gratitude to my father. It is his way of saying thank you by giving away what he treasured.
I was born in a kampung called Pondok Beris in ealry 50's and grew up as a kid there until the end of 1964.After that I grew up at boarding schools for the next 8 years. The life in the kampung during those years were not that safe. Most men carry personal weapons with them. This is one of those...
After more than 50 years since we achieved our Merdeka (Independence) from Britain,we are now no better than 50 years ago as far as public safety is concerned-may be worse.By the way nowadays,I also carry a small knife-something like this one;-)
Salam Pak Adib,
You are lucky to be the owner of that kelewan. I have of of that but with a handle made of wood.
Never knew that a Swiss Knife now comes with a USB Pen Drive as one of their survival tools.

Nice Klewang AbeDib...
That is not just a handy tool for gardening. Old folks used it to cut small trees, shrubs, clearing the area, killing snakes and other poisonous creatures and for defense against intruders. My late father kept his klewang under his bed, always near his reach..
