Kepada semua warga negara Malaysia,saya ucapkan Selamat menyambut ulangtahun kemerdekaan negara kita kali yang ke 53!

Pada hemat saya...

Apakah itu sebenarnya kemerdekaan?Adakah diri kita merdeka selepas kita menghalau penjajah dari tanah air kita?Jika selaku insan kita tidak mengenal dan mengerti maknanya,amat sukar bagi kita untuk menjadi insan yang merdeka.Kemerdekaan insan adalah amat pokok dan unit asas untuk sesuatu bangsa hidup sebagai bangsa merdeka.Jangan kita kaya,tetapi pada hakikatnya kita hamba di negara sendiri.Pada pengertian saya,insan merdeka adalah mereka yang bebas dari tuntunan hawa nafsu dan hanya tunduk kepada fitrah dan hukum Allah.Negara kita boleh merdeka 100 tahun,tetapi jika fikiran dan jiwa kita masih dijajah,kita belum lagi menjadi insan yang merdeka. Bukan merdeka untuk bertindak mengikut nafsu dan perasaan, tetapi merdeka untuk bertindak berasaskan ilmu dan panduan wahyu dari Allah swt.Negara yang sebenar-benarnya merdeka dan berdaulat wajib mempunyai insan merdeka.

More than just paper..

The new era of modern moleskine started way back in 1997.I only knew about it in 2006.Now,I am using it  for my daily life.There are three things that I don't leave home without:

1.My wallet

2.My mobile phone

and last but not least 3.My moleskine notebook.

The 'Sound' of Silence

Lately, I heard too much noise in the cyberspace due to information explosion and the ease of getting,sharing and spreading the information through email, mailinglist, facebook,twitter etc.Many of us are too eager to share the information and in many cases this information are misinformation-half truths and lies.Worst, we become the 'forwarders' of fitnah that may adversely affect individuals and organisations! How many us have given adequate thoughts and check the validity of the information before we share them with friends and post them to the cyberspace?

Sometimes,a few friends asked for my views and I replied I don't know or remain silent.Saya lebih suka diam dari jadi penyebar fitnah!!!At certain times,we should emulate the discipline of scholars before we give our views.

[49:6]Wahai orang-orang yang beriman! Jika datang kepada kamu seorang fasik membawa sesuatu berita, maka selidikilah (untuk menentukan) kebenarannya, supaya kamu tidak menimpakan sesuatu kaum dengan perkara yang tidak diingini dengan sebab kejahilan kamu (mengenainya) sehingga menjadikan kamu menyesali apa yang kamu telah lakukan.

Strength in Silence

Someone once asked the Prophet, peace be upon him: "Which land is most beloved to Allah, and which land is most despised by Him?"

The Prophet (peace be upon him) replied: "I do not know  until I ask the angel Gabriel."

Thereafter, Gabriel informed him that the most beloved places are the mosques and the most disliked are the marketplaces. [Musnad Ahmad, Musnad Abî Ya`la, and Mustadrak al-Hâkim]

In stark contrast to the example of the Prophet (peace be upon him), the Companions, and the eminent Islamic scholars throughout the ages, we find many laymen who are quite willing to speak with authority on every matter, great and small, regardless of how well informed they are. Many people speak hastily before giving the matter sufficient study. Had they only done their research, they would easily have seen how wrong they are. Alas, some people are just not prepared, mentally or emotionally, to deal with difficult issues and to research them with the required degree of thoroughness and rigour.

The media has emboldened the general public even further. Many people now regard it as a weakness when a scholar remains silent on an issue or admits he does not know the answer. They feel ashamed themselves not to have an opinion about everything, even if it is a singularly difficult question of Islamic Law or a tenet of religious belief. Every topic has become the same – politics, economics, ancient and modern history – and it makes no difference how much specialization is required to do justice to the matter.

Every piece .....

I love the BIG apple new motto-Every piece is  Masterpiece.That is a tall order but it is Big Apple's corporate tagline!Cooking is indeed an art in its own right.When the food is good at home or at the restaurant,I usually told my wife about it(in fact,she keeps asking about it anyway) and at the restaurant I will get the waitress to convey my compliment to the Chef.

To customers like you and me, we usually eat what were served to us.If it is no good,we won't come back to the restaurant again.To the chef,it is HIS reputation is  ON TRIAL-being dissected by forks and knives and judged by his customers!

Writing this note  reminds me of a special cook that I always asked for whenver I eat Japanese dinner at a hotel located along Jalan Ampang.His name is Encik Khamis.His tempura dishes were superb and my kids loved his antics while he is cooking for us.

Dead tree..

It must be there for years but I only noticed it yesterday on my way home.I saw a tll dead tree sticking out like a sore thump over the canopy of green living trees.I hope my simple and crude sketch shown on the right will illustrate the point.

My mind was wondering why the one that stood tall above the others is dead?Is it too old or a lightning may had struck it?Anyway, a dead tree is more useful than a few dead woods!Dead trees can be cut and turn into firewood, but a dead wood is not only useless but a burden.

A wise man told me that if I stand tall in the crowd,I may get the rainfall first but I also may get the lightning.Do we have the choice?Some time we do and some time we don't.May Allah shower us with His Rahmah in this Holy month of Ramadhan and protect us all the way and all the time,insyaAllah.

Chocolate lovers..

Just sharing some info among fellow chocolate lovers.The address is No 8,Jalan 9/1,Seksyen 9,Bandar Baru Bangi.I almost can smell it from my kitchen;-)

Reciting Qur'an at masjid

After solat Dzohor at our masjid today,I stayed back to listen to tazkirah on the meaning of 'liyakbudun'.Even though not all 300 men stayed back, but easily about 100 persons stayed back and listened.Alhamdulilah!!!

After tazkirah,only less than 10 took time to read the Qur'an.You can see one of them in the photo-by the door.

 

 

Tarbiyah Madrasah Ramadhan@Masjid al-Hasanah,BBB

Ramadhan: Part 1

Today is the 6th day of Ramadhan ,1425.I divide this Ramadhan into five equal parts of six days each to keep track of what I planned to do.By end of the day today, 20% of the Ramadan "special offer" is gone. So it is a good time to check what we have done compared to what we had planned to do or what we should be doing in this Ramadhan al-Mubarak! It is good if we could keep a scoreboard to measure our personal performance as well as to keep on improving our ibadah so that we are not wasting our time. Time and Ramadhan waits for no man or woman. As an example,if we plan to read the whole Qur'an within this month, we must now be reading Surah al-Maaidah by now. If not, we have to allocate more time.If we cannnot read the whole Qur'an,at least we should be reading it everyday... Fasting in the month of Ramadhan is a reallly special form of ibadah.Every moment while we are fasting, we are in the state of ibadah-obeying the command of Allah swt. This state of being is a form of obedience, hence it is a part of worship.No other ibadah other than Haj takes more than half a day. That is the reason why supplications of muslims/muslimahs who are fasting will be granted by Allah swt,InsyaAllah. May our fast be accepted as our sincere ibadah to Allah.
