Only a few minutes ago I came to know about Barefoot Day which some people celebrated two days ago on 8th April,2010.Their purpose is to create awareness of poor people in the third world who are still shoesless now.More info/photo here.
This reminds me of my few pairs of shoes in my shoes cabinet-almost a dozen! How about you? This event also reminds me when I grew up in my kampung(village) in the 50's where only the minority of us wore shoes except when we went to schools.By the way, even in the early 70's,some children and older folks still walk barefooted in my kampung. It may be due to old habit and/or poverty.
For the benefit of those who had not read my barefoot story, let me share a little funny thing that happened to me many years ago..
One day, I went to see the CEO of a company located at one of the Petronas Twin Towers. After meeting the Tan Sri,I went to Level 4 of Suria KLCC to do my solat. At that time, I was wearing full suit and a pair of Clark leather shoes. After performing my solat,I went looking for my shoes-they were gone!Stolen by an imposter who pretended to be resting at the surau(prayer room) but he was just waiting for the right shoes to steal.I had to walk a few hundreds metres and two flight of stairs down to buy a pair of slippers to go home.As I walked barefooted,I felt very awkward as if all the eyes were watching me..By the way,you don't see a man in his right mind wearing full suit walks barefooted everyday at KLCC.For the unofficial record,I may be the first man to walk barefooted at KLCC.
Note:If you have any stories related to barefoot, kindly share it here.Below is a photo taken by my friend from Holland at mykampung in 1972.Thank you.
Adib, actually walking bare footed is healthy. One study shows that if you walk bare footed you would be much healthier than using shoe. This is because there are some parts under the sole of your feet that need to be prick that would do benefit the other part of body. Reflexology did this in order to cure some sickness.
