Today is the 17the Ramadhan,1430.Some states in Malaysia celebrate it with a public holiday. From my previous observations, the shopping complexes will be full of muslims/mulimahs shopping for the coming Eidul Fitri in less than a fortnight.
It is sad that only some muslim reads the Qur'an,sadder still only a few undertands the Qur'an and the saddest of all, only a minority uses Qur'an as guide in their lives. How could the Qur'an be our Guide if we don't even undertand what we read?Worse,we seldom read the Qur'an.
Let me quote these paragraphs:
The Quran was meant to be a book of guidance in every aspect of life. The recitation with understanding was recommended primarily to highlight the importance of its message in every day life. Yet very little of the time of the believer is spent in reflecting on its message and using it as a guidance in every aspect of life.
The month of Ramadan gives us a unique opportunity to restore our understanding of the Quran and learn its message. Yet most of the time and in most of the places, the opportunity to further our understanding of the Quran is lost by limiting it to ritual reading.
Modern technology gives us tools to capture the best voice and repeat it at our will. But this is not the only purpose of the revelation. It is meant to be understood, followed and implemented in one's life. As long as this purpose is not served, the Quran will stand betrayed by those who revere it more than anyone else.
Dr. Aslam Abdullah is editor of the Detroit based English weekly, Muslim Observer, director of the Islamic Society of Nevada, Las Vegas and the recently elected General Secretary of the World Council of Muslims for Interfaith Relation. He is also the vice President of the Muslim Council of America, MCA.
So,my dear brothers and sisters in Islam, let us ponder about our relationship with the Al-Qur'an.Let us take Al-Qur'an not only in our hands but in our hearts(qalbu) wherever we may be along this short journey on this planet earth.

Yang lebih penting, kita percaya, baca, faham dan amalkan Qur'an.Lepas tu,kita sebarkan the messages of the Qur'an.

AbeDib,
I shiver when reading the Title of this entry... Every learning needs motivation.. Similiar to al Quran.. How to motivate us to read and understand. What motivates you not necessarily motivates me and similiar to others..
Are we still using age old ways of creating this interest? Keep lamenting on this state of affair as if al Quran is a fakir begging for alms? Noo!!! In this age of ICT and fast living, there must be other ways to give added value, to create interest to this new group.. Are we just leaving in to the ustazs from al Azhar and middle east who were educated in old ways, and lamenting when interest seemed hard to sink into these new breed of people??
AbeDib,
You have been very active in pursuing ICT line and I have benefited immensely from your enthusiasm.. I have been reading Quran more regularly thanks to you.. But I am of the old generation who are attracted to good Makhraj and tajweed. The new breed find these a mountainous task to climb hence what to give them interest?? The new breed also seemed to think that by reading translation they can use their own logic to get at the message with no background at all. While the interest to read need be encourage, the ways need to be channeled to the right way..
Now we have electronic al Qur'an, we have recitations by famous and great Qari to guide. We have web sites of good Islamic literatures. We have mountains of literatures at the click af the right button of the mouse on our table top. All these treasures buried is worthless.. There is need to uncover them. There are ways to do it. Is somebody doing something about it; listing down the sites, putting in alphabetical order the path to proficiency (from reading to reciting to understanding to practice), promoting it among cyber groups, actual groups etc. Not many are in the company of knowledgeable people like your community there AbeDib..
There must be someway to get at these people. Once the interest is there, al Quran is like a drug that keeps people at it (bad analogy but very apt). Al Quran will interact with the readers according to their niat and from there on is a personal journey of oneself to Allah with al Quran as his best friend.. Wallaahuaklam..

Thanks Li for taking time to write such a concerned commentary on what I blogged above.I am deeply touched!
A few days ago ,our PM mentioned about the importance of reading and understanding Al-Qur'an so that we can become great nation.Without strategy and action plans, all these shall remain rhetoric..
Let's give a thought to this and we may discuss this matter in details after Eidul Fitri.
Yes, I am blessed in a way that I mix among the scholars and they are my friends.InsyaAllah,I will discuss with my learned friends and may Allah show us the way..
