Normally,I donot buy photography magazine unless there is something that caught my specific interest. The foreign ones are too expensive,so I usually buy the local one like Digital Camera Magazine. Some time ago it was about RM5 and last night ,for July issue,I have to pay RM9.Anyway,It is still less the half of the foreign photography magazines. The reason I bought it because the special topic: Improve your Travel Photography.
I started to travel overseas when my former boss gave me RM10,000 as reward for a good job done and told me to get out of Malaysia and enjoyed myself some time in 1986.From thence on, when I have some money and time to spare,I took my family to England,Europe,USA,Japan,Australia,Singapore,Argentina,South Africa,Indonesia and Middle East.I am grateful to Allah swt that I did my travels when my kids were small. Now,two of them are working adults and one is at the university. It is almost impossible to get all of us on a trip.My advice to younger parents, given the opportunity to travel, just go and do it.At my age, health is another factor.
During my travels, overseas or locally, one of my regrets was I did not take much photos. The other thing is the quality of the photos I snapped.Yes, it was not taking photos, actually I was snapping around without much care to the quality of the shots.I only realised this about two years ago when I started to mix around with photo bugs among my schoolmates and KL Flickr group.About a year ago, someone managed to convince me to buy a Canon DSLR 400D.I am worried that I may be driving a Porsche at 60km/h;-) By the way,I also have my normal compact camera(Panasonic DMC TZ2) which I carry around most of the time.
By reading this Digital Camera Magazine,I hope to learn a few tips so that travel photos can improve from time to time. You are welcome to see the my Flickr Travel photo set here.
Note on Photos: The photos in Paris was taken by Awang Goneng and in Lake District by Wan Asmadi. The top photo was taken by me.It is the wooden tulips from Amsterdam sitting in a bowl I bought in Melbourne,Australia.
Salaam.
DCM is the only printed photography magazine I read so far, and it is good in term of quality and information (others are online, like dpreview.com). Post photography touch ups and techniques are the main reason I fork my money out. Suffice to say, RM9 for DCM is a smart buy :)
