During the two kuliyyah on Zikir for the last 4 weeks, our guru Sheikh Shamsul Bahri keeps mentioning and reminding us the ayat below from Surah Al-Muzzammil:
[8] But keep in remembrance the name of thy Lord and devote thyself to Him whole-heartedly.
[8] Dan sebutlah (dengan lidah dan hati) akan nama Tuhanmu (terus menerus siang dan malam), serta tumpukanlah (amal ibadatmu) kepadaNya dengan sebulat-bulat tumpuan.
"The likeness of the one who Remembers his Lord and the one who does not Remember Him is like that between the living and the dead" (Bukhari).
What is zikir? Why do we need to zikir? How do we go about doing our zikir? I am not qualified to conduct a discourse about zikir at my blog here. My posting is to create the awareness and the reminder for me and others about the need to learn more about zikir and to practise zikir so that it becomes part of our life ubudiyyah to Allah swt. Here is a well written notes on zikir for you to read and digest before going deeper into subject matter.
Previously,I have written a few postings related to zikir here (isolation),here(to be loved) and here(forgetfulness).
Let me share one form of zikir is by reciting the name of Allah. The length can vary from short utterance to the longest utterance until the end of our breath. My graphical notations of the zikir is shown by my sketch on the right.
I am NOT here to teach anyone who reads this blog How To Zikir. Please find a guru and learn from him.I have found mine. Now, it is your turn if you have not got one as a guide.
By the way,I am still a student who is in no position to articulate/expound further in this subject matter. As I said earlier,I am here to remind myself to engage in zikirrulah and invite others to experience its beauty!
Wallahu 'alam.
I knew of a guy who has a "memory like an elephant". He remembers (to the minute details) stories from his childhood years. What amaze me was... he can even remember each & every names of his Chinese friends (eg. Chee Poh Sian, Lim Chee Hian) way back from the class of 50yrs ago.
From my observation, I suspect the strong memory is a result of his daily zikir practice.
Another nenek I heard (who has a very strong memory) also practise zikir every minute. She do tikar mengkuang and every knot is equal to one zikir.
Such an inspiration!
One atok teaches us to selawat everytime we touch the water. Be it to wash ourselves, our food, water the plant or even upon washing the dishes! So it has become a meaningful habit.
