Travel books:Paris

On the left is a book I bought at Shakespeare & Company,Paris  when I went there with Beta Blogger(from 7-9 Sept,2003).It is a good book to read written by famous travellers from their personal experience.May be,some of you may recommend better books. By the way,if you wish to read travel stories written by a fellow Malaysian about Paris, I recommend you to read Razin's blog.

Musee de l'Elysee's exhibit ‘We are all photographers now!’

Below is an email from the organiser of WE ARE ALL PHOTOGRAPHERS NOW I received after I uploaded three photos of mine:

Dear Photographer,

Your images were shown in the Musee de l'Elysee's exhibit ‘We are all photographers now!’ in the last few days. Enclosed you will find some installation views of your images that show them in the wall.

The visitors to the exhibit are fascinated by all the different photographs that are being shown from participants like you from all over the world. Thank you again for participating and please feel free to upload more images to the site allphotographersnow.ch.

We also sincerely hope you will visit the museum. The dates of the exhibition ‘All photographers now!’ are from February 8^th, 2007 to May 20^th, 2007.

Red tape

I just wonder...who invented the red tape? Well, that is not important. What matters more is the effect of too much of red tape as mentioned by a DG of one big government department today in NST. He mentioned about millions of opportunities lost and normal folks like me suffer in silence due to delays in getting services from some organisations -governmment and private sectors.

The ministers and the goverrnment officers are talking about it. My question is who is going to reduce the red tapes all over the government departments and private sector companies?

I shall stop my posting right now,otherwise I am also included inside the same group of people.

Nafas Cahaya

To keep my mind from wandering aimlessly while doing my morning walk, I switched on my iPod and listened to a few Malay songs like "Masih kah engkau ingat"[kopratasa] and "Nafas cahaya"[Mishar Omar]. Both songs made me felt younger...nafas segar;-)

The photo shown is a 'layang-layang putus tali..'.

Gayong tempurung

This photo was taken at my mother's garden when I went home to visit her last two days. The 'gayong tempurung' reminds me of my childhood days when only a few in the kampung wore shoes/slippers. The people used the gayong to get water from the tempayan to wash their feet before they came into our house.

Learned scholars

Let us ponder on the Hadith below from Sahih Muslim:

‘Abdullah b. ‘Amr b. al-’As reported Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying:

Verily, Allah does not take away knowledge by snatching it from the people but He takes away knowledge by taking away the scholars, so that when He leaves no learned person, people turn to ignorant as their, leaders; then they are asked to deliver religious verdicts and they deliver them without knowledge, they go astray, and lead others astray.

If you happen to know one good teacher,please take the time and make the efforts to learn as much from him/her.Please be aware of teachers who donot have adequate knowledge.

Observe our children...

As parents,we must allocate time to observe what our children are doing and take time to talk to them. It is not enough for them to excel only in their academic achievement/success in their careers. Lately,I have seen too much improper behaviours...

It is better to start early when our kids are younger and old habits die hard.First is to find out their values by observing their daily lives and actions. Next is to have a really good conversations with our children from time to time.All of us are very busy with our own business and careers but I think we shall fail in our duties if we don't take time and make a real effort to instill good values and conduct for our own children.
To undertake such efforts,we ourselves must be knowledgable as well as be examples of good behaviours.

It is not easy being a father for the last 25 years. IMHO, our children need our guidance all the time. By the way, to be a good guide, we also must be guided.

Below is a portion of what I wrote on 26/11/2004:

Our children are 'amanah' from Allah swt to us.As parents,we must be very concerned about our children aqidah,ibadah and aklaq.The 'tanggung jawab' is very heavy indeed-'tanggung' mean responsible,'jawab' means amswerable/accountable.

Below is a hadith for our reference:

Prophet Muhammad - the Final Messenger of God, may God bless him and give him peace, reported that God the Exalted said:  "I created My servants in the right religion, but the devils made them go astray."  (Reported in Sahih Muslim.)  The Messenger of God, may God bless him and give him peace, also said:  "Each child is born in a state of fitrah, but his parents make him a Jew or a Christian."  (Reported in Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim).

Al-Hikam in jawi

 

IMHO,religous texts are better written in jawi for the right pronounciation and the beauty of the alphabets.

PS:It is sad to note that not many of the younger generation can read jawi well.I don't blame them entirely but it was due to our previous education policy.But if we want read religous text in Malay, the ability to read jawi is a must.

Red attractions

 

After my morning walk today,this red flower attracted my attention. At first, it was the colour then the flower itself when I got closer...
The same analogy applies to many things as we get acquinted in our lives. Get closer to know the truths..
