May I wish all readers and vistors to my blog a HAPPY AND PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR 2007.
To my fellow mislims/muslimahs-Salam Eidul Adha.
InsyaAllah,I will continue blogging when I return to KL on 4th Jan,2007.

Eidul Adha

Sempena kita merayakan Eidul Adha besok,izinkan saya berkongsi ayat-ayat berikut dari surah As-Saaffaat untuk direnung bersama:

[102] Maka ketika anaknya itu sampai (ke peringkat umur yang membolehkan dia) berusaha bersama-sama dengannya, Nabi Ibrahim berkata: Wahai anak kesayanganku! Sesungguhnya aku melihat dalam mimpi bahawa aku akan menyembelihmu; maka fikirkanlah apa pendapatmu?. Anaknya menjawab: Wahai ayah, jalankanlah apa yang diperintahkan kepadamu; Insya Allah, ayah akan mendapati daku dari orang-orang yang sabar. [103] Setelah keduanya berserah bulat-bulat (menjunjung perintah Allah itu) dan Nabi Ibrahim merebahkan anaknya dengan meletakkan iringan mukanya di atas tompok tanah, (Kami sifatkan Ibrahim dengan kesungguhan azamnya itu telah menjalankan perintah Kami). [104] Serta Kami menyerunya: Wahai Ibrahim! [105] Engkau telah menyempurnakan maksud mimpi yang engkau lihat itu. Demikianlah sebenarnya Kami membalas orang-orang yang berusaha mengerjakan kebaikan. [106] Sesungguhnya perintah ini adalah satu ujian yang nyata.[107] Dan Kami tebus anaknya itu dengan seekor binatang sembelihan yang besar. [108] Dan Kami kekalkan baginya (nama yang harum) dalam kalangan orang-orang yang datang kemudian. [109] Salam sejahtera kepada Nabi Ibrahim!. [110] Demikianlah Kami membalas orang-orang yang berusaha mengerjakan kebaikan. [111] Sesungguhnya Nabi Ibrahim itu dari hamba-hamba Kami yang beriman.

Pengajaran dari ayat-ayat tersebut:

1.Iman menuntut ujian.Setiap yang beriman akan di uji.Sila rujuk ayat 2 Surah al-Ankabut.

2.Ayat -ayat ini memperlihatkan keta'atan dan kesabaran Nabi Ibrahim,Nabi Ismail dan Siti Hajar dalam kerelaan dan keredhaan mereka menjalankan perintah Allah.

3.Iman merangkumi kepercayaan DAN amalan.

Let's ponder on these ayats from Surah TaHa:

[124] Dan sesiapa yang berpaling ingkar dari ingatan dan petunjukKu, maka sesungguhnya adalah baginya kehidupan yang sempit dan Kami akan himpunkan dia pada hari kiamat dalam keadaan buta. [125] Dia berkata: Wahai Tuhanku, mengapa Engkau himpunkan daku dalam keadaan buta, padahal aku dahulu melihat? [126] Allah berfirman: Demikianlah keadaannya! Telah datang ayat-ayat keterangan Kami kepadamu, lalu engkau melupakan serta meninggalkannya dan demikianlah engkau pada hari ini dilupakan serta ditinggalkan. [127] Dan demikianlah Kami membalas orang yang melampaui batas dan tidak beriman kepada ayat-ayat keterangan Tuhannya dan demi sesungguhnya azab akhirat itu lebih berat dan lebih kekal.
No one wants to blind in this world;what more in the Hereafter which is forever. And yet, how many times in our lives we had turnrd a blind eye to many wrongful acts and behaviours?What is worse is we were being heedless of the commands/ayats of Allah. We can ignore the commands of Allah,  but we could not get away from the reprimands/wills of Allah.

As the year 2006 is coming to the end in a few days time, let us take some time to examine ourselves in the context of the above ayats and be more mindful in the coming year.

To my fellow  muslims/muslimahs, may I wish you Eidul Adha al-Mubarak.

RM100millions flood damage!

Let me qoute what I wrote some seven years ago as the Introduction to my Waterworld website:

Perigi is a Malay word for the well,where  people get their water . Water is the first commodity. If  you don't have it,it is the most precious of all commodities. It can be very hard and rigid when it turns into ice;it is very soft when it is normal. It does not even has it own shape, rather it will take the form of the  container it is in. Water is very humble for it finds its own level and flows to the lowest point in space. When it is in gaseous state,it is there but nobody realises its presence. However,when the conditions warrant it,it transforms itself into torrential rainfall that floods cities and villages.Nobody can stop it.Without water,nothing survives. That is the power of water. When rivers,lakes and dams dry up,you still can get some water from the well@PERIGI.

You are welcome to my digital well.You can take some water,but do leave some for others. Let's us share it among us humo- sapiens;for water is res communes. The government can corporatise or privatise it,however water  will remains ours and ours only.The water belongs to everyone of us.Let's keep the water flowing for us and the future generations.. 

Well,that is water(the pun is intended;-)

It is not my intention here to expound on flood hydrology or Intergated River Basin Management discourse, but suffice to say that damaging flood is the outcome of what we had done and what we did not do right in our national environmental management. We shall reap what we sow! In environmental issues, either we pay now or we pay later. As you could see, we had made that choice.

To those who could help in anyway,please do. Late this afternoon, Datuk Dr Jemilah(President of MERCY) called me. According to her, there are people in Johor still having problems to get drinking water in flooded areas. She asked me to get hold of suppliers who could sell to MERCY portable water treatment plants. Tomorrow, you will get them YBhg Datuk Dr Jemilah.

Reading is my passion and when I saw a kid reading,I just can't resist to take his/her photo. This photo was snapped using my mobile phone when I was at Popular Bookshop yesterday.[my apologies for low quality photo shot]

By the way,just look at the way he sat and read the book! I was watching him for a few minutes and was wondering where the book has taken the young boy even though his body was right in front of me? Books can take us any where to any part of the world via our imagination. That is one of the beauty of reading books...

Now we have quite a number of flyovers around Klang Valley. Many a time, I do take a wrong turn because of the confusing signboards.The one shown here is near One Utama. Next similar one will be close to my home at Kampung Pandan roundabout.

As an engineer,beautiful space frames always fascinate me.A few years ago, I was warned by a security guard at KL Sentral for taking a few photos of a similar roof structures. By the way, my first assignment as a young engineer at PWD in mid 70's was to re-design the school roof structures.

Looking up to the roofs, I was wondering about how the load distribution was done? Nowdays, this structural engineer's nightmare will be solved in a few minutes using computer softwares.

The photo shown was taken this morning using my new DSLR. I just got it  two days ago and I am still learning how to use it.
