Take time to rest

Everyone of us needs a rest,so is our mobile phones.The photo shows a nice cozy plastic chair for my wife's phone.It was given free to me by a shop-keeper who refused to sell one when I requested to buy .

So, have a a good rest and a nice weekend:-)

Grandmother singers..

Last night, my wife and me were invited to attend an annual  dinner Malam Indera Kayangan.We were entertained by four grandmothers who were popular singers when we were much younger. It was great entertaiment and a pleasant surprise to see the great performance of Julie Sudiro,Yusni Hamid,Sophia Ibrahim and Khadijah Ibrahim on stage!

Their bodies may be 40 or 50 years old but their voices are great! Listening to them brought back memories when we were young and many of the grandfathers sitting besides me were clapping their hands; and  their heads swayed along with the music....

One thing I learnt last night is that the sound of a  singer's voice remains constant with time.

It was a night to remember...

Du'a Iftitah

"Adib, I am ashamed of myself.Every time,I start my solat I read du'a Iftitah,but I realised that I don't live to the ikrar(the promise) that my solat,my ibadah,my life and my death are for Allah",confided my friend yesterday. Immediately, I replied that he is not alone( me included).Most of us forget the ikrar we made to Allah swt as soon as we finish our solat.We go on living the way we have been living and seldom try to include more activities that contribute to the  fulfillment of that promise.Worse still, we continue to go against the command of Allah as soon as we finish our solat.In one Kuliah subuh, a friend asked my teacher Dr Musa Fatullah Harun why there are still people who go on making sins but yet they do their solat.He simply replied: These people actually did not do their solat.(only the acts of praying).

The promise we make everyday to live and die for Allah swt is a very heavy responsiblity.If we did not try hard enough to live that promise,then we are lying to Allah five times a day at beginning of our solat.May Allah have mercy on all of us.

One way to remind us is to ponder for a while after each prayer what what we had done or not done for the day.Then check whether our actions are in-line with our promise i.e du'a Iftitah.

She is 'my lady'

The photo of this Malaysian doctor needs no introduction. But for the record,she is no other than The MERCY President Datuk  Dr Jemilah leading her team of doctors helping the injured and the sick in Aceh.They managed to dig two wells that produce potable water.She is where the action is,and once got shot while delivering medicines in Iraq. Water Project Finance

Two days ago I attended the a seminar as above organised by Malaysian Water Partnership. The issue is very critical for our country basic infrastructural needs-Water.water is also a strategic national asset. We must meet the national water demand but a few projects had to be deferred or already delayed due to shortage of fund.

I was made to understand that financing water project is not that attractive.The amount is huge and the ROI is low. The expectation of the consumers  is high but their willing  to pay is low. How does one resolve this dilema?

A few weeks ago,our Parliament has passed the bill to reform the water industry and the formation of National Commission for Water Services.The consultant appointed by the government proposed PPP concept, but has yet to receive the government approval.Once the legal framework is  in place and the Commision becomes operational,then only I could expect improvement and potential investors or lenders will be interested.

In the mean time, we have to wait for a while.

Photoblog

Lately, I spent quite some time every day looking at photoblogs from all over the world.A few photobloggers are really good photographers. The photos come from all corners of the globe;some of them are quite extra-ordinary photos taken by ordinary folks. It seems that everyone with a digital camera is capable of being a photo-journalists!

Previously, I can only see unique and strange photos from National Geographic magazine, but now I can see for free from ordinary people's photoblog.

About two years ago, I bought a cheap  digital camera from Kodah.It cost me RM 888.It is not much, but for people like me who only knew how to click,it is more than enough. Most of the snapshots I took are kept in my computer and CD's.

Some time around the middle of last year, I upgrade my camera to a little bit better-from Kodak to Olympus.By default, I became the official photogpaher to my wife's garden.Whenever a flower blooms, I will be commanded to take photos.Some of them are posted in this blog and a few good ones are archived in the photo albums on the left hand side of my blog.

A few years back,mobile phones are only for business people. Now,almost everyone is having one.With the reduction in price of digital cameras,almost every family is having one.The mobile phones and the digital cameras are no more luxury items.With smart phones and connected pda's with cameras, one can upload the photos as soon as they are taken.

Nowadays, we donot need to carry a camera.Certain phones also have cameras built-in. With the right gadgets and softwares, we can snap photos and send them immediately to our photoblog websites!

I don't leave home without it

Yes, it is with me all the time.I never leave home without it.It is not a credit card .It is a palm pda(personal digital assistant) which I have been using it since 1998.You can read its history here.Over the years, I have used about four models beginning with Palm 111.In order to share the information,knowledge and experience, I set up a group called Palmx User Group Forum as well as a mailinglist.(the technical portions are done by my younger moderators). Now, we have a few hundred members and a few hundred emails/messages a month flying across the cyberspace.We also meet once in every two months.We call it BTM-Beam,Talk and Makan.Here are some photos.

Prior to 1998, I was using Time management diary.The new simple technology made me changed the way I managed my time.In all honesty, we don't manage our time; but we manage ourselves up to a point.I say up to a point because we can propose but God disposes.

Looking back six years ago, the pda started with simple function of datebook, contacts, todo list and memo.It took off very well because of its simplicity.Yes, simpilicity.Our lives are getting complicated and we all need to simplify it.My experience over the years simply demonstrated that pda is ONLY a tool.It is our choice to simplify or complicate our lives.The tool remains just a tool.It is up to us who must plan and act ...

Five days ago, I got the latest model of palm pda(not available yet in Malaysia).It is called Treo 650.You can read a review by my friend Dr Jamal.So, the last few days I was very busy fondling and tweaking the Treo.It combines many functions of mobile phones,pda and mp3 player!What more can I ask? Technically speaking, I can ask for more RAM memory.To know more,please read here about its functions and technical specifications.

Previously, I have Tungsten T3 and SE T630.Now, all I need is a Treo - all in one.It is lighter on my pocket-literally and financially speaking.To me personally, it is a good investment to manage time,which is much more expensive than a pda;-)

By the way, Treo 650 has a good camera and I have started a photo-blog here and some technical matters here.

In a word, Treo 650 is a beauty!

I-Symbian meet

Today, I attended the gathering of owners of psion devices and phone using symbian OS.I bought a netbook for about RM 1000 a few years ago but seldom use it except for typing shortnotes.In fact, it is a powerful machine for basic computing using epoch5 OS.Sadly, there is no more new version and no  local support.The new development of hardware is almost dead but symbian software is very much alive in many mobile phones.According to seasoned users, it has very stable OS and can do all basic word processing,spreadsheet,web browsing using Opera,etc.

To be loved...

To be loved,one has to do more than what is required-be it with fellow human beings or God.It is the same thing when it comes our relationship with Allah swt.Last week,we were reminded that to be loved by Allah, we must  not only do what is fardu but also as much sunat ibadah as possible.One of them that we can do today or the next few days is Puasa Sunat Muharam.Tomorrow is 10th of Muharam.Here is a link in Bahasa about it.

Fasting is not the only ibadah sunat we can do to seek the love of Allah.One of the easier ones is zikirullah.All it takes is a little bit of our effort and time.

No pains no gain.

Let's seek the love that lasts...only from Allah.
