Rolling tyres

On the way back after sending my son to school this morning, I had to endure a short period of traffic jam.The cause was an old Mercedes was blocking the lane that I was in.What I saw was the car has lost one rear tyre!

Normally a tyre has at least six screws and yet all of them must have been loosened in order for the tyre to come off. This incident did not suprise me because two weeks ago, I saw an incoming Pajero suddenly stopped on the opposite lane I was travelling. Then to my consternation, I saw a free wheeling tyre moving in front of the Pajero! by the Grace of Allah, the dislocated tyre moved straight and missed my car by about two feet!

I don't know much about car maintenance, but it demonstrated to me that some drivers/car owners never do adequate maintenance of their vehicle's tyres. So the lesson learnt is that we must pay more attention to tyres-our safety and others depend on them.

there are some ppl i know who dont know how to change tyres, sometimes even filling up the air. how hard can it be? that's basic driving. even male drivers! with the introduction of aam and other roadside assitance, nak tukar tayar pun kena call.. how lazy are we getting?

Agree wif you bad.

:) if you send you car for balancing on regular interval then the pressure will be top up by the mechanic. so no need to do it on your own. ;-)but if you are taking heavy loads than normal, please top up. it is important to have the correct pressure so that the tyres are evenly used. Don't forget to rotate your tyres as well but for those using uni-directional tyres the cost to rotate the tyres will be more expensive.

in addition to taking of your tyres, don't forget to check the water level for your radiator. driving in KL traffic jammed will easily make your car overheated. and please follow the manufacturer instruction on regular maintenance. For the record, I change my engine oil every five weeks due to my heavy travelling. I wish I can drive a car that needs maintenance every 20k. so I can save my maintenance cost.

Fiat Ullysse requires servicing only every 20,000 miles ;-) Tapi tak bestlah. Cam bawak bas :-p

drtamil,

I hope you are enjoing your Fiat asn much as I enjoyed driving my citroen.Citroen is nice to drive but I have to bear its "kerenah".(idiosysncracies).
