DIY is a quite famous three letters word especially to the MEN ABOUT THE HOUSE. Most men found great satisfaction in doing some minor house work and at the same time save some money. Well, I could not agree more.
However, let me share some observations that DIY may also means Die It Yourself. A friend of mine,a water engineer by training, decided to repair his house water system after he retired from government service. He missed a step and fell and died while trying to repair his water tank.
Two days ago, one of my staff went to help his brother to repair some roofs. He fell down and broke his knee, backbone and has some blood clots in his brain. He is now being treated at Neorology Dept. of Hospital,Kuala Lumpur.
So my dear friends(especially men), don't be a dead or paralysed heroes. Please know what we can do and what we cannot do. Before you start thinking of DIY,just consider the risk first-if it is not worth the money saved, then get someone else to do it for you.

may be abe dib could include a 'risk assessment form' in the posting. :)
DIY is what all we do here in the Blighty, coz labour cost is indeed ginormous. part may only cost £5, but to put it may cost you another £25(labour charge). for plumbers, there is 'call out charge'. you'll get charged (between £10-£20) even before they step into your house and look at the problem. once they step in, then their 'hourly rates' start clicking, then only cost of parts come into play, then cost of installing. haiya.... kering.
